History

1954

Charles A. L’Heureux and Paul Fontaine founded Best Brands Ltd. and obtained a charter from the Province of Quebec. Its mission: to stock the shelves of grocery stores… with candy. The company started operations at 2444 Des Carrières, with 400 square feet of office space and 2000 square feet of warehouse space.

1956

Within a short period of time, the company moved to 8691-9th Avenue in Ville Saint-Michel. It doubled its office space and occupied a new warehouse with an area of 9,200 square feet.

1967

More expansion, another move. In Montreal North, at 11430 boul. Albert-Hudon, the new building included 6000 square feet in office space and 35,000 square feet in warehouse space.

1968

Best Brands Ltd. acquired Club Sales & Agencies Ltd., a company that had been distributing candy since 1945 throughout Quebec.

1973

Best Brands Ltd. became Best Brands Company Ltd./La Compagnie Meilleures Marques Ltée.

1975

The company computerized with an ambitious program ending in early 1977.

1986 et 1987

The company bought Chef Lelarge Inc., which allowed it to radically change its activities and develop new knowledge in the area of marketing import products. This acquisition enabled Best Brands to enter the import market (France, Belgium, Italy, etc.)

1990

A new partner joined us: St-Hubert BBQ Ltd. Best Brands also purchased Coq Hardi Ltée and Confiseurs Paramount Ltée.

1995

In 1995, management made a landmark decision that would soon pay off: to appoint a representative specifically for the sale of Lelarge products. The first Lelarge territory was thus developed.

2001

Growth obliged the company to move again. Best Brands moved to 9050 de l’Invention in Anjou. The building covers 83,810 square feet, including 10,000 square feet of office space. The same year, the company acquired the Quebec distributor, Distributions A.G.P., a company that had opened in 1983 and had established itself in food distribution. Lelarge division products now number nearly 370 versus 20 in 1987.

2002

The St-Hubert Group acquired all shares of Best Brands Ltd.

2004

Today, Best Brands is considered one of the largest importers and distributors of food products in Quebec.

2005

Since October 3, 2005, Best Brands has been part of the legal structure of the St-Hubert group.

We are making it official with a new legal entity: Best Brands, a division of Les Rötisseries St-Hubert Ltée.
